IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bobbie Jean
Lee Mitchell
February 24, 1949 – March 31, 2021
Thank God I Moved Out...
"For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." ~Philippians 1:21
Bobbie Jean Lee Mitchell will be remembered for having a heart of gold and for being happiest when others were happy. She was most appreciative of kindnesses, great or small, shown to her. Born to Corine McDaniel Herring and Ola Lee, Sr. on February 24, 1949, Bobbie remained a lifelong resident of Madison. Preceding her in death were her parents; siblings: Runette Holmes, Cleo Pullens, Jr., Ola Lee, Jr., James Lee, Sr., Patricia Lee, Mabelene Lee Phillips, and great granddaughter: Nevaeh Lee Mitchell.
Bobbie attended Suwannee River High School, formerly Madison County Training School. Her love for children led her to earn certifications and trainings in childcare and food services which prepared her for employment with Kids Incorporated of the Big Bend and food services at Madison County Central School before her retirement.
Bobbie was married to Willie "Boley" Mitchell, Jr., for nearly 40 years. They were both hard workers who shared common interests, especially in their service to the Lord. Earlier in life, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior at Jeslamb A.M.E. Church. She later joined Willie in active membership at Mt. Nebo A.M.E. Church. Willie was the Church School Superintendent and Bobbie was the Church School teacher for the carloads of youth from around the neighborhood that she brought to church. She was also regarded as the unofficial youth choir director who encouraged and directed from her pew. Bobbie's other responsibility was being a member of the finance committee, but she willingly assisted with any other task that needed to be done. She later joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Madison.
Bobbie assumed the role as the Lee family matriarch. With this responsibility, she readily became the "go to" person for home remedies and cures she learned in the past from the generations before her. She was lovingly called "Dr. Bobbie" because the home remedies she suggested really worked. Many family and friends continued to contact her for advice for their conditions even when her own health was failing.
Bobbie called everybody "Baby" regardless of their age. She expected everyone who entered their home to feel welcomed and to enjoy the fellowship, food, and fun. Bobbie loved to cook and to host family gatherings, especially during the holidays. Everyone looked forward to fixing plates of her soulfully delicious comfort foods - collard greens, dressing, oxtails, and pigs' feet, etc.
On any given casual day, Bobbie wore her signature attire - baseball cap, jeans, and sneakers. She moved about quickly, hummed as she worked and got much accomplished.
Among her many past time enjoyments were gardening and growing flowers, especially daylilies and sunflowers, reading the Bible and listening to Gospel music, working puzzles, and watching her favorite television shows: "Judge Judy", "Touched by an Angel", "Family Feud", "In the Heat of the Night", and "Wheel of Fortune".
At the age of 72, Mother Bobbie Jean Lee Mitchell, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
Forever cherishing her life, legacy, and love are her loving husband: Willie Mitchell, Jr.; sons: Duwayne Henry of Panama City, FL, Tyrone Mitchell and Vicenta Mitchell, Sr., both of Madison, FL; brothers: Monroe Lee of Perry, FL, Alton Lee of Madison, FL, and Ricky Lee of Ft.
