Clarence Alexander
“Papa”

“This Little Light of Mine; I’m Going to Let It Shine”

Clarence Alexander, affectionately known as “Papa,” was born in Madison, Florida, on June 1, 1956, to Ulysses Alexander and Bertha Mae Ivory Brinson Alexander. He was best known for his jovial personality, which radiated smiles, generated laughter, and created humor in any imaginable, fun-loving way. He was a lifelong resident of his childhood community.

Clarence worshipped with his family at New Antioch African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church of the Jeslamb A.M.E.Church Circuit. It was there during his earlier years that he professed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior.

Educated in the Madison County Public School District, Clarence was a 1974 Madison High School graduate who later earned his bachelor’s degree at Edward Waters College (University) in Jacksonville, Florida. He returned home to give back to the community and as a result, he gained employment at Madison Middle School where he once attended as a student. However, he left because of the School District’s cutbacks and layoffs but was hired respectively by Metal Products and Dixie Packers prior to their going out of business. His final position of employment was with the Apalachee Center for Human Services. Regardless of his job or situation, Clarence was committed to making each day a little brighter for everyone whose lives he impacted.

One of Clarence’s leisure enjoyments was fishing and sharing his catch and/or stories of the ones that got away. He also found peace in preparing savory soul food and baking mouth watering treats.His specialty meals were always enjoyed and appreciated, especially during the holidays and at family events.

The Lord, seeing that Clarence Alexander had grown tired, looked upon him with eyes of mercy. Then on Monday, February 2, 2026, He whispered, “Go in peace. You’ve earned your rest.” In obedience,Clarence quietly transitioned to his eternal home.

Clarence Alexander’s presence was a gift, but his absence leaves avoid that can never be filled. He is gone from his loved ones’ sight but never their hearts. Forever cherishing his precious memories are his brothers: L.C. (Annie) Alexander of Miami, FL, Jerry Alexander, and Thomas (Priscilla) Alexander, all of Madison,FL; sisters: Geraldine Alexander and May Linda Alexander, both of Madison, FL; along with many other sorrowing relatives and caring friends.

Preceding Clarence Alexander in death were his parents: Ulysses Alexander and Bertha Mae Ivory Brinson Alexander, and his sisters: Lucille Thompson, Margie Bellamy, Josephine McCray, and Deloris Alexander Turner.
