Obituary

Deacon Ulysses Wesley
"Boy Wesley"
1944 – 2023

"If my people who are called by my name would humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land."- 2 Chronicles 7:14

Deacon Ulysses Wesley, the son of Augustus Wesley, Sr. and Flossie Solomon Wesley, was born on February 11, 1944. A lifelong resident of Madison, Florida, he was affectionately known as "Boy Wesley".

Loved ones who preceded him in death were both of his parents, and siblings: Mary Jane Jones, Albert James "AJ" Wesley, Mack Wesley, Henry Wesley, Samuel Wesley, and Augustus Wesley, Jr.

Deacon Wesley accepted Christ as his Redeemer earlier in his life. As he matured in faith and by grace, his purpose in life became more certain. He was passionate in his love for the Lord which was evident by his faithfulness in many roles he had at church - deacon, finance committee member, choir member, and otherwise filling in wherever he was needed. His familiar hymns of testimony were "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Lord, You Are Holy" and his favorite scripture (2 Chronicles 7: 14) is an important reminder to all. He also used every opportunity to admonish everyone to be true to self and to "Be what you are."

Deacon Wesley was a dedicated employee who gave his best at whatever he attempted. His career jobs were at Madison House (factory) and Watkins Engineering & Construction Company, prior to his retirement from Dixie Packers meat processing plant. He then used his time and talent as his opportunity to repair vehicles. He had the mechanic's ear to hear and diagnose and the God-given ability to correct the problem or to advise them of rack costs to expect at the auto shop. This was his way of giving back to the community and to responsibly help others.

Boy Wesley combined his love of traveling with his enthusiasm for sports. He was a very supportive Madison County High School Cowboy fan who was present at every home game and every away game.

Many years ago, "Boy Wesley" established his daily morning routine of making his rounds beginning with his dining in with his friends at McDonald's and greeting others who stopped by the Jiffy store. He then enjoyed the tranquility of Lake Frances before he moved on to do the chores of the day.

God saw that His servant leader was getting tired and answered his fervent prayer. Deacon Ulysses Wesley relinquished his earthly life and entered eternal glory on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. Servant of God, well done.

Deacon Ulysses Wesley's loved ones who will continue to keep his love, legacy, and memories of his life embedded in their hearts are his sisters: Ruby Pride and Betty Lou Straughter, both of Madison, FL; sister-in-law: Mary Wesley of Madison, FL: devoted nieces/caregivers: Patricia Cain and Karla Jones Montgomery, both of Madison, FL and Clara Wilson of Columbus, GA; bonus children: Terrence Graham, Nancy Copeland, Debra Boatman and Lora Mobley; bonus grandsons: Marquise Harts and Mario Hodge; devoted friends: Howard Johnson and Ausborne "Oz" Glee; along with many other sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins, and compassionate friends.
