Obituary

"…weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning." – Psalm 30:5

Deacon Robert Lee Davis was the middle child of A.C. Davis and Stella Davis. Born on June 18, 1952, he was a lifelong resident of Madison, Florida. Both of his parents; his brother: Acie Davis, and his sister: Mary Alexander, all preceded him in death.

Robert was known throughout the community as "Duke", a nickname he acquired as a child. He was educated at Madison County Training School (later renamed Suwannee River High School). He graduated with the Class of 1970, the last high school class at that campus before the schools were desegregated. Soon after, Duke began his employment career at Gold Kist/Pilgrim's Pride.

During his early years, Robert faithfully attended church with his family. When he recognized that his life was incomplete without Christ, he joyfully accepted Him as his personal Savior and became an active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. However, as he grew in faith, he became more involved and dedicated his time and talent in his service to the Lord. Because of his dedication and servant leadership, he was chosen to become a deacon, a position he accepted with honor and continued in that role years later as a member of Genesis Missionary Baptist Church.

Deacon Davis loved his family and spent as much time with them as possible. He was especially concerned about his children and grandchildren and was proud to share their progress with their former teachers and friends. He always encouraged them to conduct themselves appropriately and to always do their best.

Considering his pastime activities, fishing would be at the top of his list. Deacon Davis loved the challenge of reeling in the "catch of the day". He also enjoyed winding down by riding. (This may have also helped him locate other possible fishing locations.)

Deacon Robert Lee Davis, Sr. "didn't feel noways tired" because he knew God "didn't bring him this far to leave him". He was welcomed to the gathering of the saints to dwell forever on Sunday, April 3, 2022.

Those who are left to cherish Deacon Davis's precious life, love and legacy are his children: Reginald (Sheila) Davis and Latreca Davis, all of Madison, FL, and Robert (Erin) Davis, Jr. of Jennings, FL; sister: Debra D. Haynes of Madison, FL; brother-in-law: Ceasar Alexander of Orlando, FL; fourteen grandchildren; someone special: Greta Cooks; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, sorrowing friends, and caring neighbors.
