Life Reflections of
Deacon Freddie James "Pee Wee" Simmons
1950 -2021

Deacon Freddie James Simmons, was a lifelong resident of the Georgetown community in Madison, FL. He was the fifth child born to F.J. and Alice Moore Simmons. Preceding him in death were his parents; his siblings: Tommie Mitchell, Willie Moore, Marty Roberts Simmons, and Lora Lee Richardson.

As a small child, Freddie's dad gave him the nickname "Pee Wee", a name that followed him throughout his life.

Deacon Simmons was educated at Madison County Training School. Realizing some of his own missed educational opportunities, he wanted young people to understand the importance of education and to take learning opportunities seriously. He made sure his nieces, nephews and some other children in the community began their school year with school supplies and other necessities for their success.

Although he did not have any biological children, he did have a special bond with his nieces and nephews; many regarded him as their second dad. Freddie was known to discipline them with tough love if they needed it, but in hindsight, they regarded him only as their gentle giant with a soft heart.

Pee Wee accepted Christ as his Savior early in life and became a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church. As he grew in faith and servanthood, he earned the position as a church deacon, a position he accepted with honor. He also was a most dependable member of the church's Culinary Committee.

Soon after his retirement from the City of Madison where he worked many years in the Water and Sanitation Departments, he found time to enjoy the little but also the important things in life—leisure driving, sitting around the lake and local stores. He also loved farming, especially raising hogs and growing vegetables.

On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, transitioned from his earthly life to live forevermore in his eternal home.

Mourning his passing but forever cherishing his life and legacy are his sisters: Mary Alice Robinson of Clearwater, FL and Toney (Paul) Hampton of Madison, FL; brothers: Stanley Simmons, J.W. Simmons, and Ray Charles Simmons, all of Madison, FL, and Ricky (Tonja) Simmons of Daytona Beach, FL; niece raised as a daughter: Dana (Harold) Davis of Pinetta, FL; nephews raised as sons: Keith "Keybo" (Rolanda) Simmons of Clearwater, FL, Kevin (Donna) Robinson of Madison, FL and Travis (Fatima) Robinson of Gainesville, FL; special nieces: Pennie Mitchell of Cherry Lake, FL, Shara McNair and Teresa McNair both of Madison, FL, and Sandy Simmons of Panama City, FL; God-daughter: DaBra Lofton of Tallahassee, FL; devoted friend: Alfred Martin of Madison, FL; special neighbor: Gwen Wright Hall of Madison, FL; newly adopted daughter: Kanetra Gilmore of Madison, FL; newly adopted grandchildren: Zniah Silas, Terrell Robinson, Traniyah Robinson, Takara Robinson, and Greg Cobb; along with many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
