"Mack"
June 4, 1929 - October 25, 2021
On June 4, 1929, Deacon William M. Wormack ("Mack") was born in Madison, FL to his proud parents, Robert Wormack and Retha Lipscomb McGhee. He remained in Madison during his early years but relocated to Jacksonville, FL as an adult. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Cora B. Wormack; son: William Wormack, Jr.; and sister: Cora Jones.
Earlier in his life, Mack accepted Christ as his redeemer, and as he grew stronger in faith, he put his faith into action. He was a dedicated member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville. He was ordained as a deacon, designated as a trustee, and served as president of Usher Board Number 1. He accepted each responsibility with the utmost honor and pride. He was also a mason.
After Mack received his education at Madison County Training School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a cook and served honorably in the Korean War. Afterwards, he was gainfully employed at Mayport and Cecil Field Naval Air Stations, and held other federal jobs. He was also a driver for McKessan – Robbins Medical Supply, as well as a painter before his retirement.
In addition to his work ethic, Deacon Womack used his leisure time to fish and garden. He also enjoyed eating the fruits of his labor and other good foods. He especially loved to reminisce about his early years in Madison and about his love for his relatives.
Life's race well run. On October 25, 2021, Deacon William M. Wormack, Sr. answered the heavenly bugle call to enter eternal rest. Life's work, well done.
