Freddie "Popeye" Lee Johnson, Jr.
October 29, 1970 – January 8, 2022
October 29, 1970, was a very special day in the lives of Freddie Lee Johnson, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Tice because it was the day they became the proud parents of Freddie Lee Johnson, Jr. From that day, he was well-known throughout his community. He remained a lifelong resident of Madison, FL. His mother and brothers, LaGarrett Johnson, Willie Johnson and Tommie Phillips preceded him in death.
Freddie Jr. received his education in the Madison County Public School District. During those years, he also began his Christian experience at St. Thomas AME Church under the leadership of Pastor Sterling Barkley. He later accepted Christ as his Savior and united with the Pineland Missionary Baptist Church family. On any given day, he expressed his love for all, for he was truly a people person. Not only did he love people, but he also loved being able to help them in any reliable way that he could.
Freddie Jr. enjoyed life itself and did not take it for granted. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends who lovingly called him "Popeye". He was a jokester that brightened up any room or situation. He found enjoyment in his clothing selection, his music that he wanted others to appreciate as well, eating good foods that were prepared with love, and showing his support as a devoted Florida State University football fan.
On Saturday, January 8, 2022, Freddie Lee Johnson, Jr. closed his weary eyes to enter eternal rest. Although his loved ones' hearts are heavy, they can find comfort in knowing that he is resting in the arms of Jesus and that they, too, can live in hope, knowing that they can earn their angel wings.
Cherishing Popeye's special memory are his father: Freddie Lee Johnson, Sr. of Madison, sons: Marcus Johnson, Freddie Lee Johnson, III, and Jeremy Johnson, all of Madison, FL; daughters: Keirra Johnson of Madison, FL and La'Reatha Johnson of Miami, FL; caregiver: Stacey Johnson of Madison, FL; brothers: La Gilbert Beasley and Larry (Alberta) Phillips, all of Madison, FL, sisters: LaShawn Thompkins, Audrey Beasley, Jessica Johnson, Bobbie Phillips, Margaret (Elijah) Davis, Angela (Pastor Rondy) Mathis; cousins raised as brothers: John Christian, Jr., Darryl Ward, Tony Hall, all of Madison, FL, and Sgt.
