Gladys S. Cary, 100, of Tallahassee, FL, formerly of Oneida, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
She was born on January 19, 1922, in Oneida, the daughter of Fred J. and Lola Dunham Sayer. Gladys was a 1940 graduate of Wilson High School in Niagara County. She went on to attend Mohawk Valley Community College.
On February 9, 1946, Gladys was united in marriage to Byron C. Hopkins in Weedsport. He passed away on December 30, 1960. On December 16, 1966, she was married to Harold C. Cary. He passed away in 1973.
Gladys was a clerk for the Madison County Treasurer's Office for twenty years, retiring in 1981. After retirement, Gladys moved to Florida in 1987.
She was a former member of the Clockville Methodist Church.
Surviving are her five children, Mary Frances (David) Charles, of Tallahassee, FL, Clifford F. Hopkins, of New Bern, NC, Donald A. Hopkins, of Taberg, Karl E. (Marianne) Hopkins, of Oneida, and Lance K. (Yurika) Hopkins, of Japan; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Beverly (Howard) Relyea, and Audrey Cary Tucker; a special friend who is a part of her family, Cheryl Eldridge, of Gorham, ME; and several nieces and nephews. Gladys was predeceased by her sister, Marian Rosa, on June 26, 2007; and a daughter-in-law, Chi Young Hopkins, on March 9, 2015.
