Mother Gladys Deloris White Hill
February 1, 1946 – February 18, 2026

“Well Done Good and Faithful Servant…Enter the Joy of the Master”
Matthew 25:21

Mother Gladys Deloris White Hill was the much-loved daughter of George White and Pearlie Mae Brown Thompson. Born on February 1, 1946, she spent her formative years guided by caring family members and neighbors who lived on Happy Street in the Georgetown Community of Madison, Florida. She relocated to Detroit, Michigan, as a young adult and lived there for many years raising her family. She returned to North Florida, and for the next 30 years, she resided in Jacksonville. She moved to Tallahassee later in life.

Having given her life to Christ earlier, Mother Hill was drawn to worship at The Word of Life Ministry in Jacksonville, Florida. Under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Walter Johnson and Assistant Pastor Bee Johnson, she offered her service to the greater honor and glory of God. Her love for the Lord reflected His light that made her a shining example of His goodness and grace. Because of her witness, faithfulness, and service, she was chosen to become a “Mother” of the Church, a position she held in high esteem.

Mother Hill began her formal studies at Madison County Training School in Madison. When she relocated to Jacksonville, she was compelled to advance her education by enrolling in the General Education Development (GED) program offered at Jones College. Determined to do her best, she scored so high on the exam that she was awarded a diploma instead of the traditional certificate. Afterwards, she bridged over to Jones College to earn certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). With this preparation, she was able to fulfill her desire to become a loving and compassionate care giver for nursing home residents as well as for patients in need of her private health care services.

Whenever Mother Hill blessed others, her blessings multiplied because of her generosity and faith. She loved to cook and enjoyed eating her meals, but most of all, she was a giving spirit who loved to share with others.

In her pastime Mother Hill enjoyed listening to Gospel music, especially that of her favorite singer, Lee Williams of the Spiritual QCs. On the other hand, she loved listening and/or dancing to the R&B Oldie Goldies. Her true enjoyment, however, was spending as much time as possible with the “apples of her eye”- her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.

Mother Hill was a pillar of faith who “built her hope on things eternal because she held to God’s unchanging hand.” She believed that it was God’s Divine plan to grant her peace and eternal rest. Therefore, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, she gently closed her eyes and transitioned from her earthly life to receive her heavenly reward. It is well with her soul.

Mother Gladys Deloris White Hill is greatly loved, deeply missed, and will always have a special place in her loved ones’ hearts. Her legacy of love, hope, service, and genuine concern for the well-being of others will be cherished forever.
