Obituary

Mr. Glennie Anderson
1948 – 2023
"Earth Has No Sorrow That Heaven Cannot Heal"

Glennie Anderson, the younger son of Jack Anderson and Rosa Lee Anderson, was born on May 28, 1948. He grew up in Madison, Florida, resided in Palatka, Florida, during his career, and retired in Madison.

Glennie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Edith Marie Herring Anderson who received her heavenly reward on August 24, 2022; both parents; and his older brother, Walter Anderson.

After graduating in the class of 1966 at Madison County Training School, Glennie furthered his education at Edward Waters College (currently University) in Jacksonville, Florida, and completed his advanced degree at Florida A & M University in Tallahassee, Florida.

Glennie was employed in the Putnam County School System as a physical education instructor until his retirement. Beyond the walls of the classroom, he involved himself with community outreach. He was concerned for the welfare of others, dependable in going above the call of duty, and well-respected by all.

Glennie and Edith became forever sweethearts while they were in high school. United in marriage on August 6, 1972, they kept their flame aglow for 50 years. Although they did not have children of their own, they were "village parents" who mentored countless young people in their community. They unconditionally gave them educational experiences and opportunities that enriched their lives. They also had a genuine love for family, especially their nieces and nephews, and were generous in supporting them with encouragement, advice, finance, and just by lending a helping hand when needed. The love they freely gave to others richly blessed them in return. They also shared entrepreneurial interests in real estate development.

During the early years of his life, Glennie accepted Christ as his Savior. He was an active member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Palatka.

Glennie was down to earth, very kind, and laid back; he took most circumstances in stride. He loved talking to people, enjoyed spending time with friends, and valued discussions about current events at his local favorite hangout spots – the lobby of Burger King, McDonald's and C & E Restaurant.

On Sunday, April 16, 2023, Glennie Anderson's earthly chapter ended as he crossed from this walk of life to reconnect with his beloved Edith, but more importantly, to begin a new and promising life of living eternally with the Lord.

Glennie Anderson will be greatly missed but for those who know the Lord, have hope in the promise that they will meet again. Cherishing his life, love, and legacy are his devoted sisters-in-law: Mildred (Tom) Jonas, of Madison, FL, Judy Anderson of Ayer, MA, and Melanie Adams of Belle Glade, FL; brothers-in-law: Michael Adams of Orlando, FL, Leroney (Marcia) Herring and Benjamin (Frances) Herring all of Miami, FL; nephews: Brandon (Brittany) Jonas of Madison, FL; Nicholas Jonas of Tallahassee, FL; and Matt Anderson of Massachusetts; and niece: Desiree (Darius) Strickland of Atlanta, GA; along with many other sorrowing "village family" members and loving friends.

Serenity
God, grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.
