Mother Ida Mae Zimmerman
1935 - 2021
"The Lord has promised good to me,
his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be
as long as life endures."
Mother Ida Mae Zimmerman, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, FL, was the daughter of Rosa Way Zimmerman and Henry Zimmerman, Sr. Both parents, together with her sons: Tommie Zimmerman, Michael Zimmerman, and Harvey Zimmerman; daughter: Michelle Zimmerman; sister: Alberta Zimmerman; and nephew: Gregory Zimmerman, all preceded her in death.
Mother Ida was educated in the Duval County Public School System. After she completed school, she married and later began her employment as a domestic worker (housekeeper). Her dedication and work ethic enabled her to help support her family.
Mother Zimmerman was a joyful person and a peace maker. Her love for the Lord was nurtured from the time she accepted Him as her Savior. Because of that life-changing experience, she chose to live her life so that it would be pleasing in God's sight. She loved sharing the Good News about the Lord, for the joy of the Lord was her strength. Ultimately, her faithfulness as a member of New First Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, and the godly manner that she always presented herself, earned her the honor as Church Mother.
Mother Ida loved her family and the times they spent together. She loved her children dearly, but her grandchildren had an extra special place in her heart. They affectionately called her "Grandma Bunchie". In addition to her family time, Mother Ida enjoyed traveling and reading.
Mother Zimmerman answered the Master's call and transitioned to her eternal home on Monday, August 30, 2021. She is at peace; her soul is at rest. There is no need for tears, for your love she was so blessed for all those years. Although her loved ones' hearts are heavy, they can celebrate her life and find comfort in knowing that she is with the Lord.
When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Forever in the hearts of her loved ones who will treasure her rich legacy of life, love, and witness were her sons: Henry Zimmerman and Darryl Zimmerman, both of Jacksonville, FL, and Ronald Zimmerman of NYC, NY; daughters: Leslie Zimmerman, and Ann (Bernard) Richardson, all of Jacksonville, FL, and Brenda Zimmerman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; brother: Charles (Linda) Zimmerman of Jacksonville, FL; niece: Loretta Zimmerman of Jacksonville, FL; beloved cousin: Jeremiah Zimmerman of Jacksonville, FL; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; a host of many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
