1952 – 2022
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
~ Psalm 23:4
James Clinton McCray, the son of J. McCray and Beatrice Tice, grew up with his siblings in the Cherry Lake Community of Madison County, Florida. During his early life experience, James was taught to honor God, to be respectful (especially of his elders), and to always do his best at whatever task/job he attempted. He maintained those qualities throughout his life. Both parents, along with his son: Norris McCray, and brother: John Peek, preceded him in death.
A lifelong resident of Madison, Florida, James was educated in the public school system before he pursued his employment career. Because of his skills and fascination for driving trucks, he was hired by Waring Wyche Concrete to drive cement trucks and to pour concrete. This job gave him opportunities to constantly meet people, except he regarded them as more blessings the Lord sent his way.
James accepted Christ as his Redeemer at an early age and became a member of High Antioch African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church in Cherry Lake. Following the example of Christ's love for all, James expressed his love in his treatment of others and his willingness to help them in any way he could.
James was a family man who enjoyed the great times they shared. He was the reliable big brother for his siblings, the loving "honey do" for his wife, the "go to" Daddy/ Pa Pa for his children, and a "marshmallow" for his grandchildren. He demonstrated a special love for each grandchild, but everybody knew that Kaniya was the "apple of his eye".
After a long day or week, James also enjoyed many activities. He loved to hunt and because he used the special techniques his wife taught him, he also loved to fish. At home, James enjoyed perfecting his billiard skills so that he could challenge his family and friends to a game of pool.
On Friday, August 5, 2022, James Clinton McCray answered the Master's call and journeyed to be with Him at the gathering of the saints in eternal glory.
James Clinton McCray's "life was a blessing and his memory a treasure". Keepers of his cherished memory and sacred trust are his faithful wife of 34 years: Sandra McCray; son: Morris McCray of Madison, FL; daughters: Tosha Wilkerson, Carnisha Redding, both of Valdosta, GA, Tawanna Aikens of Monticello, FL, Evelyn Butler and Tangela "Tan" Butler, both of Madison, FL; brothers: Willie (Sheryl) Peek of Harker Height, TX, Lester (Linda) Peek of Valdosta, GA, Timothy Peek and Quinton Peek, both of Orlando, FL, both of Orlando, FL; sisters: Vera Peek and Eva Mae Peek Williams, both of Orlando, FL; along with many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
