John Henry Ivory, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, FL, was born to John Henry Thomas and Mary Ivory Thomas on September 29, 1947. Preceding him in death were his father and sisters: Lynda Limbric and Brenda Ivory.
John Henry was a hard worker who also enjoyed spending time with family to whom he was most protective. He was a great cook who used his talent as opportunities for family gatherings and the enjoyment of good food, fun, and fellowship. He added to the fun by giving nicknames that others would use as well. He also used his people skills with friends and neighbors to coordinate and host neighborhood crab boils that were always well attended and enjoyed.
John had many other pastime interests. He loved collecting comic books, creating tasty dishes, and being a sports fanatic. He especially loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, neighborhood basketball at Norwood Park, weightlifting and professional boxing.
Of all the successes he had in his life, his acceptance of Christ as his Savior was the most significant. It opened his heart to seeing others who were less fortunate/the underdogs and having enough compassion to champion their cause and not write them off.
"Some glad morning when this life is over, I'll fly away. To the land where joy shall never end, I'll fly away." On Thursday, April 14, 2022, John Henry Ivory was granted his angel wings to enter time eternal.
Those left to cherish John Henry Ivory's well lived life are his wife: Patricia Ivory of Jacksonville, FL; son: Elshonti Ivory of Jacksonville, FL; daughter: Raevondala "Rhonda" Ivory of New Orleans, LA; mother: Mary Ivory Thomas, of Jacksonville, FL; siblings: James (Joy) Ivory, Leon (Dora) Ivory of Chicago, IL, Edward (Cynthia) Ivory of Jacksonville, FL; Leonard Ivory of St. Petersburg, FL, Keith Thomas and Kevin Thomas, both of Jacksonville, FL; sister: Mary (Clarence) Washington of Jacksonville; grandchildren: Ashanti Ivory of Mayo, FL and Armoni Ivory of Pinetta, FL; great grandchildren: Kyrie Ervin of Mayo, FL; sisters-in-law: Fagarie Wormack, Sherrie Wormack, and Dr. Pearlie J. (Pete) Curry; together with many other loving relatives and sorrowful friends.
