Brother John Lee Pride
“The Joy of the Lord is My Strength” ~Nehemiah 8:10

Brother John Lee Pride, the beloved son of James Pride, Sr. and Ruby Pride, was born on June 27, 1957, in Madison, Florida. He was reared with his four brothers in a close-knit neighborhood affectionately known as the Setzer’s Quarters where neighbors looked out for each other and their children. They all instilled in the children core values that influenced them all throughout their lives. As a result of his upbringing and his desire to succeed in life, John did everything in a more excellent way. He was loyal, kind, and dedicated in completing whatever he began.

The Pride family worshiped together at New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. When John became of age to make the decision, he professed his belief in Jesus Christ and never lost sight of his faith or his commitment to be a servant leader. Because he had a heart for helping individuals who were in need, he offered his service for the greater honor and glory of God. Years later, as residents of Tallahassee, he and his wife, Alesia worshiped together as members of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Truth Church.

John was a 1975 graduate of Madison High School, and a 1977 graduate of North Florida Junior College. Afterwards, he transferred to Florida State University where in 1981, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He worked at the Florida Department of Revenue for 38 years, where he held multiple positions and retired as a Tax Specialist.

As much as John enjoyed his employment and collaboration with his coworkers, he also appreciated his leisure time. He looked forward to sharing the highlights of his day with Alesia and listening to hers. He never allowed himself to be bored because he pursued a variety of special interests. He loved listening to music, traveling, reading, and solving word games, collecting comic books and coins. Likewise, he was a Florida State University basketball enthusiast who supported the program in any way and as much as possible.

John was a gentle giant with quiet strength and unwavering kindness. With God’s help and his determination, he accomplished whatever he attempted. He was also passionate about his and Alesia’s involvement in leading the Married Couples’ Ministry. Although he did not have children of his own, he was a father figure for his godchildren and other young people he mentored.

“When He calls me, I will answer; I’ll be somewhere listening for my name.” John Lee Pride obediently answered the Master when He called his name on Friday, December 5, 2025. He peacefully transitioned from earthly labor to receive his heavenly reward in the joy of the Master.

Brother John Lee Pride’s love for the Lord, work ethic, servant leadership, and character left a meaningful impact on all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years: Alesia Jackson Pride; devoted mother: Ruby Wesley Pride; brothers: Eugene “Gene” Pride and Michael Pride; aunts: Betty Straughter, Betty Murrel, Victoria Brown, and Mary Wesley; godfather: Apostle Kennith Barrington; godchildren: Christopher Bethae and Talia Sills; nephew/son: Patrick Jackson Willams; together with many other sorrowing relatives, loving friends, consoling coworkers, comforting church families, and caring members of the Seminole Basketball Nation.

Cherished loved ones who preceded Brother John Lee Pride in death were his father, James Pride, Sr., as well as his brothers, James Pride, Jr. and Larry Pride.
