Sister Lizzie Bythewood Washington
July 15, 1935 – December 19, 2023

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." ~Psalm 23:4

Sister Lizzie Bythewood Washington, the daughter of Theodore Bythewood and Sally Goff Bythewood, was born on July 15, 1935, in Monticello, Florida. She grew up in the Turkey Scratch Community of Jefferson County, Florida.

Preceding Sister Washington in death were both of her parents; her husband: Woodrow Washington; her children: Robert Scurry and Willie Mae Livingston; and her brothers: Emery Bythewood, George Bythewood, and Theodore Bythewood, Jr.

Earlier in her life, Sister Washington accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized by faith. Because of her steadfast faith which makes all things possible, she was favored by grace and divinely gifted with wisdom. She reliably rendered her service as the financial secretary, member of the culinary committee and volunteer who willingly assisted in doing whatever needed to be done at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Perry, Florida.

Sister Bythewood was dedicated to giving her best effort at whatever she attempted. She was employed for ten years at Owens Illinois Brockport Plant and for many years at Birds Eye Food, in addition to taking care of her family. During her leisure time, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and traveling. She was also the matriarch who looked forward to preparing delicious meals for family get-togethers and spending quality time with them.

God knew that Sister Lizzie Bythewood Washington had gotten tired and brought her life journey to a close. He chose Tuesday, December 19, 2023, for her to transition from her earthly life to be brought into His glory where she would find eternal rest beyond the river.

The loved ones who will celebrate Sister Lizzie Bythewood Washington's love for all, longevity of life, and faithful service possess the truest testimony of her legacy. Among those who will cherish her precious memories are her son: Hampton (Ann) Scurry of Greenville, FL; brother: Wallace (Deloris) Bythewood, of Turkey Scratch Community (Jefferson County) FL; sisters: Willie Lois (Minister Charles) Tinsley of Perry, FL and Mildred Thompson of Maryland; special nieces: Sabrina Cox, Judy Bythewood, and Tamika Johns; a host of grandchildren; in addition to many other sorrowing relatives and compassionate friends.
