Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Marion Lavonne “Coolbreeze” Denson
1951-2026

Marion Lavonne Denson, affectionately known as “Coolbreeze,” was born on March 7, 1951, and peacefully transitioned on April 30, 2026. Her life was a testament to strength, authenticity, and love—a woman who lived her truth boldly, spoke her mind freely, and yet carried a heart as gentle and giving as they come.

“Coolbreeze” was truly somebody to be reckoned with. She kept it real—unapologetically open, honest, and at times blunt—but always from a place of sincerity. Those who knew her understood that her words carried truth, and her presence carried power. Beneath that strong exterior was a sweetheart—expressive, loving, and deeply devoted to those she held dear.

At an early age, Marion was baptized at Lake Rachel, beginning her spiritual journey rooted in faith. She later became a member of Pineland Missionary Baptist Church in Madison, Florida, where she nurtured her belief in God and found strength through life’s many seasons. Through it all, Marion lived with a quiet resilience, embodying the spirit of the song, “I won’t complain… God has been so good to me—He’s been good to me more than this old world could ever be.”

Her greatest pride and joy was her daughter, Marian, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally. That love extended to her grandchildren and family, each of whom she cherished deeply. Marion’s love was not quiet—it was expressive, it was felt, and it left a lasting imprint on every life she touched.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Denson, Jr.; her infant son, Calvin J. McQuay; her parents, Marion Lindsey and Estella Bridges; her maternal grandmother, Mary Magelene Staley Bridges; and her siblings, Lorraine Jonas Brown and Michael Jonas.

She leaves to forever treasure her memory: her beloved daughter, Marian Denson (Bobby Andrew) Thompkins of Madison, Florida; her grandchildren, Ashley Mobley, Jermaine Arnold, and Andrew Jermar Thompkins; her brothers, Raymond “Gee” Jonas, Sr., Tommie (Mildred) Jonas, Sr., both of Madison, Florida, David (Gwendolyn) Jonas, and Terry Jonas of Newark, New Jersey; her sisters, Annie Jo Martin of Madison, Florida, Iris (John) Allison-Hawthorne of Albany, Georgia, Brenda (Frankie) Johnson of Madison, Florida, and Angela (Wayne) Messam of Miramar, Florida; her aunt, Lela Lynch of Newark, New Jersey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many sorrowing friends.

Though her voice may be still, her spirit speaks loudly through the memories she leaves behind. Her strength, her honesty, her love, and her unwavering realness will never be forgotten.

And even in our sorrow, we can hear her spirit whisper: “I won’t complain… because God has been good to me.”
