Mother Sarah Ellen Miller Solomon
1937 – 2022
"and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death" -Revelations 21:4a
Mother Sarah Ellen Miller Solomon came into the world on September 22, 1937. She was raised with her siblings in the Georgetown Community of Madison, Florida, and remained a lifelong resident there. Mother Solomon was preceded in death by her parents: Johnnie Miller and Rosa Johnson Miller; brothers: Johnnie Miller, Jr., Frank Miller, and Major Ketter; and grandson: Keith Solomon.
Seeing the need for having a store within the community, Mother Solomon took a leap of faith and became the owner/operator of Sarah Ellen's Grocery Store. Sarah Ellen's has been the gathering place for many in the community. Mother Sarah Ellen welcomed all walks of life and treated everyone the way she wanted to be treated.
Empowered to make a difference and interacting with everyone gave Mother Sarah Ellen the opportunity to know them and to become the "village mother" who kept a watchful eye on the children. She was loving but also used tough love when necessary; she was firm but fair to all. Her influence in their lives covered many generations. She knew that "if she could help somebody as she passed along, then her living would not be in vain."
When Mother Sarah Ellen accepted Christ as her Redeemer earlier in her life, she became a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church. Her love for the Lord was nurtured by her faith, witness, and active involvement. After years of faithful service, she was recognized by her church family with her installment as "Mother" of the church, a position she accepted with humility and honor. During her later years, she maintained this position after she moved her membership to Revelation Missionary Baptist Church.
Following her retirement from Buckeye Cellulose Corporation in Perry, FL, Mother Sarah readily appreciated her more relaxed lifestyle. She enjoyed having time to fish, cook, garden, and to have more time beautifying her yard with its highly recognized "Yard of the Year" curb appeal.
She had come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord. On Friday, August 5, 2022, Mother Sarah Ellen Miller Solomon leaned on His everlasting arms to answer His call. She gently closed her eyes to enter eternal rest.
Memories of her influence will linger long after her footprints in the sand are gone. In addition to the entire community, Mother Sarah Ellen Miller Solomon leaves to cherish her precious memory, her devoted children: Millie Miller and Larry (Phyllis) Solomon, all of Madison, FL; sister: Alma Jean Ketter Schultz, of Madison, FL; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; as well as hosts of other loving relatives and sorrowful friends.
