Miss Corrine's Story
"If I can help somebody as I travel along, then my living shall not be in vain."

Mother Corrine Juanita Givens Rayam, the only daughter of Clarence Rowland and Leola Givens Washington, was born on April 11, 1934, in the Cherry Lake community of Madison, Florida. She resided in several neighborhoods in this vicinity her entire life.

Relatives who preceded her in death were both parents, her son: Billy Charles Dopson, her daughter: Lisa "Buffy" Givens, and her granddaughter: Tammy Arnold.

Mother Corrine was soft-spoken, dependable, and kind-hearted. She treated others with Christlike compassion, instilled morals and values, and offered guidance that shaped others' lives. Most of all, she demonstrated the importance of having integrity and being truthful – always letting her "word be her bond". She was well-respected and was respectfully called "Miss Corrine" by many generations of friends, neighbors, and church members, but to her extended family, she was "Mama".

Mother Corrine Rayam began her Christian experience at Architillery Missionary Baptist Church. Earlier in her life, she accepted Christ as her Redeemer and began to work tirelessly in His service to do His will for His glory. Her personal vow was to "do all I can for the Lord" as she performed the many duties and responsibilities she willingly accepted with unspeakable joy. At various phases in her faithfulness, she was the church clerk, usher board president, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School secretary, and senior choir member. A part of the culinary committee, Miss Corrine could be counted on to provide her delicious cakes. However, one of the most rewarding roles she fulfilled was that of a missionary. "If I can help somebody… then my living shall not be in vain." Her love and concern for others was put into action on Sunday afternoons when she devoted time to calling the sick and shut-in and for offering prayers and encouragement for their recovery. "Great is thy faithfulness."

Miss Corrine was a dedicated employee with a great work ethic. She initially worked at Gold Kist poultry plant (Pilgrim's Pride) but many years later, she retired from employment in the custodial department at Madison County High School.

In addition to her employment and Christian mission, Miss Corrine loved the times she shared with her family, especially when they got together for family activities and/or during the holidays. However, she also looked forward to her daily pastimes for inner peace and enjoyment. She devoted this time to fishing, working on arts and crafts, and growing flowers and plants. Likewise, she enjoyed watching her all-time favorite television shows from the past: The Andy Griffith Show, Perry Mason, In the Heat of the Night, as well as Judge Mathis and all the other judge shows.

Mother Corrine Juanita Givens Rayam lived to die only to live again. On Sunday, October 29, 2023, she held on to God's unchanging hand, gently closed her eyes, and quietly transitioned from labor to rest eternally with the Lord. "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

The family and other loved ones will hold Mother Corrine Juanita Givens Rayam's rich legacy of love, purpose, and longevity close to their hearts. These everlasting memories will bind them together as family. Forever cherishing these special memories are her devoted daughters: Leola (Tommy, Sr.) Arnold, and Mary Givens, all of Madison, FL; concerned brothers: Percy Rowland of Philadelphia, PA, Samuel Rowland of Charleston, SC; loving grandchildren: Tommy (Kayla) Arnold, Jr., Pamela (Kelvin) Walker, Natasha Mitchell, Min. Courtney Straughter (raised as her own), Xavier Tillman, and Coddrick (Catherine) Griffin; eleven great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; bonus daughters: Shirley "Toppi" Johnson and Mary Jane Johnson; along with a host of other loving relatives, sorrowing church family, compassionate neighbors, and friends.
