Mother Martha V. McQuay-Aikens
1928 - 2022
"If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living will not be in vain."

Mother Martha McQuay Aikens was born to Tazsora Tice McQuay and Cleveland McQuay on March 9, 1928. She was reared in the Madison County community and remained in the area as a lifelong resident.

Mother Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: Nathan L. Aikens and four siblings: Tazzie McQuay, Adene McCall, Novella Baker, and Willie McQuay.

Mother Aikens began her spiritual journey at an early age. She received Christ as her Savior at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and under the pastoral leadership of Elder James C. Miller. In the late 1950s, she joined New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. She loved the church and faithfully served on the Mother Board as well as the Usher Board until her health failed.

Mother Aikens was also a member of the Heroines of Jericho in Bellville, Florida.

Mother Martha joined in Holy Matrimony to Nathan L. Aikens on July 16, 1956. Together, they opened their home to rear 13 children. In the spirit of love and kindness, she was a nurturing and giving woman who was especially blessed to mother three of them from toddlers to adulthood as her own.

In addition to motherhood, the simplest pleasures brought greatest joy to Mother Aikens. She enjoyed cooking for the church ministers as well as her family. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and fishing.

Because she was no stranger to hard work, Mother Aikens spent many years having an occupation in domestic services. She later changed careers and worked at Darling Bags in Valdosta, Georgia. She retired after rendering more than 20 years of dedicated service.

Mother Martha McQuay Aikens came this far by faith, leaning on the Lord. Resting on her belief in God, she departed her earthly life to enter an eternal life with the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2022.

Mother Martha McQuay Aikens leaves loved ones who will celebrate her life and cherish her precious memory. Raised as daughters: Obra (Lee) Baynard and Salina Davis; raised as her son: Willie Davis; grandchildren: Don Davis, Tony Baynard, Greg (Monica) Baynard, and Leah (Chad) Baynard-Kelly; as well as many other sorrowing great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
