Obituary

Mrs. Nora Dean Mitchell Cummings
"Let not your heart be troubled; ye believe in God; believe also in me." - John 14:1

Sister Nora Dean Mitchell was welcomed into the family by her proud parents, Willie Mitchell, Sr. and Emma Lee Miller Mitchell on December 16, 1953, in Madison, Florida. She was a blessing, not only to the family but also to many others in the community. She was preceded in death by both parents, and two of her siblings: Carrie Mae Mitchell and Jerry Mitchell.

Nora Dean loved the Lord and by faith, she accepted Him as her personal Savior earlier in her life. She became a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church, but years later, she sought membership at the Church of Apostolic Faith under the leadership of Pastor Emma Barfield. She willingly served the Lord with gladness in her duties as assistant treasurer and member of the trustee board.

After many years of faithful service, Nora Dean retired from her employment at Pilgrim's Pride (formerly Gold Kist) poultry plant. This gave her the opportunity to travel with her family and appreciate life itself. She looked forward to going on family cruises, attending family reunions as well as other family gatherings. The telephone was her friend because it was her "next best thing to being there", and she spoke with everyone as often as possible. She thoroughly delighted in the special times she spent with family. Because she loved to cook, she always prepared tasty dishes and delicious meals for everyone. Likewise, Nora Dean really enjoyed her down time routine as a Tyler Perry fanatic who loved watching anything he created - movies, plays and hit television series.

On Sunday, March 6, 2022, Sister Nora Dean Mitchell Cummings gently answered the Master's call to enter eternal rest from her labor to live forever in her heavenly home. While her loved ones' hearts are heavy, they can celebrate her life and find comfort knowing that she will serve the Lord forever.

Death leaves heartache that no one can heal. Love leaves memories that no one can steal. Cherishing sweet memories are Nora Dean's children: Catrena Thomas Weatherspoon of Madison, FL, Shunmas (Laverne) Cummings of Fayetteville, NC, and Byron (Shonta) of Grovetown, GA; companion: Clifford Cummings of Madison, FL; siblings: Willie Mitchell, Jr. of Madison, FL, Ella Mae McCray of Miami, FL, Harrison Mitchell, Emma Barfield, Kenneth (Gladys) Mitchell, Patricia (Louis) Jones, Michael (Angela) Mitchell, all of Madison, FL; uncle: David Ellington of Moncks Corner, SC; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special friends: Geneva Gallon, Lillian Jennings, and Elizabeth Hodge, all of Madison, FL; godbrother: Jesse Solomon of Madison, FL; along with many other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
