Simmie Lee Barfield Thomas
Life Story of Love, Witness, & Reward
"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
" ~Proverbs 31:10
Simmie Lee Barfield Thomas began the first chapter of her life as the eldest daughter born to Samuel Barfield and Charlie Mae Johnson Barfield of Madison, Florida. Except for the seven years she resided in Jacksonville, Florida, Simmie Lee lived her entire life in Madison. Her husband and her parents all preceded her in death.
Simmie Lee was a 1964 Madison County Training School graduate who furthered her educational experience at Suwannee River Junior College, the college designated for black students living in the surrounding counties. Afterwards, she married Freddie Lee Thomas and they were blessed to have children. They taught them the importance of having a relationship with God, being obedient and respectful to all, and preparing themselves for their life journey.
Earlier in her life, Simmie Lee accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Madison. She remained a faithful lifelong member who enjoyed being a part of the Culinary Ministry, but she also served in other capacities whenever she was needed.
Simmie Lee loved spending time with the many generations of her family, friends, and neighbors. She especially delighted in preparing soul food feasts for them to enjoy together on special occasions. For her personal enjoyment, however, Simmie Lee loved watching television shows from the past, as well as solving crossword puzzles to keep her mind active and sharp.
Simmie Lee's varied employment career included her work at Lake Park Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center, the local Kentucky Fried Chicken (assistant manager), and Kids, Incorporated (teacher). Each position created its own special chapter of personal growth in her life story.
"I am at peace, my soul's at rest; there is no need for tears; for with your love I was so blessed for all those years." The final chapter of Simmie Lee Barfield Thomas's life ended on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, when her soul peacefully exchanged time for eternity to be at rest.
Mourning Simmie Lee's passing while forever cherishing her loving memory are her children: Keith (Geneva) Thomas, Delmonie (LaShondral) Thomas, both of Madison, FL, Tantrell Solomon, of Columbus, GA, and Francesa Solomon of Madison, FL; siblings: Rev. Dr. Charlie (Shirley K.) Barfield, Raleigh (Annie) Barfield, Alfred Barfield, Marjorie Jackson, Sandra (John) Gibson, Lisa Barfield, Keva Grimmage, all of Madison, FL, Barbara (Dale) Bonner, of Perry, FL, and Victoria Thompson of Orlando, FL; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; aunts: Mary Hall of Madison, FL, Loretta Johnson of Tampa, FL, Shellie (Lewis) Golden of Columbus, GA, and Catherine Price of Jacksonville, FL; special friend and caregiver: Annie "Minnie" Williams of Madison; along with many other loving relatives and sorrowing friends.
"Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." ~Proverbs 31:31
