Thomas Hicks, the son of Hardie Mae Hicks, was born on January 17, 1959. However, his grandparents, David Hicks, Sr. and Loma Hicks, raised him along with some of their other children in the Greenville community of Madison County, Florida. Because of their guidance, he learned to be caring, to have a loving relationship with others, and to be a good worker. Because they understood the importance of education, they made sure that he attended Greenville Training School, the school for Black students where caring teachers prepared them for life. Years later, he relocated to Madison, Florida.

Thomas, fondly referred to as "Papa Hicks," was one of a kind - a man who lived life on his own terms. Although he was outspoken and expressive, he had a heart of gold. He selflessly shared with or gave to anyone in need, even if it were his last. He knew that when he blessed others, he, too, was blessed. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He really enjoyed entertaining, having fun, and being the life of the party.

Thomas loved working and being in the fresh air and sunshine. He was fascinated with construction work and forming concrete. Therefore, he learned how to become a concrete finisher and was gainfully employed by T.L. Renfroe Construction, Inc. of Madison.

Thomas Hicks enjoyed life and did not take his living for granted. However, the time came for him to say, "Goodbye world; I'm going home." On Thursday, November 6, 2025, he peacefully answered the Master's call and transitioned to his eternal home.

Thomas Hicks' family members will continue to cherish his legacy of life and love and to keep his fond memories alive in their hearts. Those who look forward to meeting with him again one day are his brother: Harry Hicks, of Ocala, FL; sister, Betty Bell of Palmetto, FL; aunts: Gleanda Hicks of Jersey City, NJ, Roresu Chandler of Palmetto, FL, Ruth Bell and Leatha Hicks, both of Madison, FL; uncle, Willie S. (Terri) Hicks of Ruskin, FL; great uncle: Willie Rayford of Williston, FL; nieces & nephews: Safie, Angel, Andrenique, Andrelle, Harry, David, Tyrone, Jamie, and Latora; along with many other sorrowing relatives, compassionate friends, and loving coworkers.
