Life Story
TOMMIE LEE TURNER, SR.
"When I've gone the last mile of the way, I will rest at the close of
the day; And I know there are joys that await me,
When I've gone the last mile of the way."
TOMMIE LEE TURNER, SR., the son of Freddie Turner, Sr. and Erie Dell Willis Rowe, was a lifelong resident of Madison, Florida. Both parents and several siblings: Sammie Lee Turner, Sandy Turner, Freddie Turner, Jr., Jim Rowe, Barney Turner, Evelyn Coley, and Mary Lee Turner, all preceded him in death.
TOMMIE LEE was a dependable person with a strong work ethic. He began his employment at Dixie Packers as a heavy equipment operator and later, at Gold Kist Poultry Plant (now Pilgrims' Pride). He was also a truck driver. Earlier in his life, TOMMIE also used his time away from the job and his talents to make a difference in the community. He enjoyed volunteering his free time as a Pee Wee league football coach, singing with the Gospel Tru-Tones, playing bass guitar as well as DJing social events.
TOMMIE LEE received his education at Madison County Training School, the school for the African American students who lived in Madison. This education prepared them for valuable life situations they would experience in the future, and TOMMIE LEE was no exception.
Prior to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Tommie Lee visited Jeslamb African Methodist Episcopal Church on many occasions.
TOMMIE LEE TURNER, SR. answered the Master's call and departed this life to enter eternal rest on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Although many hearts are broken, his life will be remembered for the concern he had for others and the countless lives he touched.
Forever cherishing his memory are his loving children: Tommy (Essence) Turner, Jr., Shannon Turner, and Sydreaka Turner, all of Madison, FL; grandchildren: Jaquan Hills, Shydasha Hills, Jaliza Turner, Tariji Turner, and Tommy Turner III, all of Madison, FL; siblings: John (Loreta) Turner of Lake City, FL, Calvin (Michelle) Turner of Mitchville, MD, Carol Ann (Richard) Turner, Raymond (Laura Ann) Turner, James (Debra) Turner, Joe (Mary) Rowe, Sr., and Edward (Sandra) Rowe, all of Madison, FL; special friend: Vonnie Blackshear; nephew, raised as a son: John Wilson; neighboring friend, raised as a son: Timothy Clark; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other sorrowing relatives and loving friends.
